There's A Psychology Behind Signage?

Most people don't give the signage around them much thought. Unless of course, they are trying to follow directions to arrive at a destination.  I came across an interesting article today that was written by Aaron Miller, Author of Thrillest's Cars. 

Even as a Sign-Maker, I really hadn't given much thought to the actual sign design as it pertains to a psychological component of sign design. I know that sign luminescence and view-ability are very important, but I was not aware of the psychology of sign design.

Back in the day things were different in the sign world. Signs were hand-drawn and painted, designs were simple and permits were non-existent. But that was then and this is now.  The signage and graphics industries are continually evolving. Products and materials are exploding.

There was a time when the only way to find a good sign company (other than a personal referral) was a good search in the Yellow Pages. Imagine this..there are some young folks who probably don't even know what the term "Yellow Pages" means. Not only that, many sign companies no longer put their marketing dollars in the Yellow Pages. Nor do they keep a Yellow Page directory on site.

In this day and age the term responsiveness has different meanings. It has always been important for any business to be "responsive" to their customers. A good sign company knows that answering their phone and email  in a timely fashion, as well as all of those other important product details, is critical to providing superior customer service. Being responsive to our customers is the key to keeping them as customers.

But the term "responsiveness" as it relates to our tech-savvy gadgets now means that anyone can call up our business website (in an easily viewable way) no matter which gadget they are using to do so. And to hear any search engine optimization company or website builder talk about it, if your website is not "responsive", you might as well stay in the dinosaur age and hand over your customers to every other progressive company.

That is, we found a stacked-stone picture; printed & laminated it & then applied it to our ugly, concrete wall. What once was an ugly wall, looks like it was remodeled.
